What Are Smart Plugs (& Why Use Them?)
A smart plug is a device that sits between your wall socket and any electrical appliance (lamp, fan, heater, kettle, etc.). It turns that appliance into a “smart” one you can control via a phone app, voice, schedule, or automation.
This adds a level of safety and comfort to your routine.Controlling your electrical appliances with voice or app commands offers increased safety and comfort. This allows for effortless management, especially when navigating in the dark, such as when returning home or preparing for bed.
Why Use Smart Plugs
- Remote control (turn on/off from your phone)
- Scheduling / timers (e.g. lights off at midnight)
- Voice control (works with Alexa, Google Assistant, etc.)
- Automation & smart home integration
Tip: I have automated plugs to turn on lights when I’m away
